19th Annual Jamaica Ocho Rios International Jazz Festival 2009
June 8-15, 2009

Jazz Treasures

Jazz Treasures at Two Seasons Guest House (www.2seasonsguesthouse.com), Treasure Beach, will be held on Saturday, June 20, as the South Coast leg of Jazz Week, June 13-21, 2009, in the 19th renewal of the Annual International Jamaica Ocho Rios Jazz Festival.

Although bearing the name of the North Coast town, the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival is an islandwide happening, with events scheduled for Mavis Bank, Kingston, Negril, Treasure Beach and of course, Ocho Rios. Produced by it's founder and director, Jamaica's legendary jazz musician, Cecil "Sonny" Bradshaw and his wife and co-director, vocalist Myrna Hague, this year the theme of the festival is "The Preservation and Promotion of Black Classical Music - Jazz".

Jazz Treasures will feature drummer par excellence, Desi Jones, and his band of friends, Christopher McDonald (keyboards), Adrian Henry (bass), Rupert Bent (guitar), Dean Barnett (steel pan), Courtney Fadlin (sax), and Winsome Benjamin (vocals).

The song bird of Jamaica, Karen Smith, will add her vocal talent to the treasure-trove of jazz. Hidden Treasures will be revealed when local talent from Treasure Beach take the stage. Before the start of the show, during intermission and after the show, jazz aficionado, Muta Baruka, will play selections from his extensive collection of Jazz CDs.

Proprietor of Two Seasons Guest House and organizer of Jazz Treasures, Christine Marrett, is excited about the event. "I am receiving so much encouragement, advice and support from so many persons, especially Sonny, Desi, Karen, and from fellow hoteliers in Treasure Beach: Kory South of Sunset Resort and Villas (www.sunsetresort.com), Jason Henzel of Jakes Resort (www.jakeshotel.com), and Gladys Finlason of Button Bay Beach Getaway (www.buttonbayjamaica.com). Other businesses in the area are also coming on-board, such as Treasure Tours (http://treasuretoursjamaica.com) and Treasure Beach.Net (www.treasurebeach.net). We look forward to others partnering with us".

"A special treat for persons attending Calabash in Treasure Beach on May 22, 23, and 24 is that they will get an additional $100 off the price of the pre-sold Jazz Treasures ticket if they purchase the ticket during Calabash", she promises.

Newly constructed (2008) Two Seasons Guest House offers accommodation (bed and breakfast) with modern conveniences (including free Internet access) in 10 bedrooms with own bathrooms. The expansive grounds of the guest house will provide the ideal setting for an enjoyable feast of music, food and drink, and the company of friends in the traditional laid-back atmosphere for which Treasure Beach is famous. Come to Treasure Beach for Jazz on Saturday, June 20 and stay for Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21. You’ve got to be there! Show time is 7 p.m. Gates open from 6 p.m.
