FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Frances-Anne Solomon’s dramatic feature film A Winter Tale, starring the legendary Leonie Forbes, heads to theatres in Jamaica

Toronto – March 3, 2008

Following a string of successful North American premieres and theatrical releases, Frances-Anne Solomon’s acclaimed feature film A Winter Tale will open to movie-goers across Jamaica.  The film, which features a talented ensemble cast led by famed Jamaican icon Leonie Forbes, will open on April 9 at the following cinemas: Carib 5, Kingston; Palace Cineplex, Kingston; Palace Multiplex, Montego Bay, Odeon Cineplex, Mandeville; and the Marquee Cayman in Georgetown, Grand Cayman.

A Winter Tale’s Jamaican premiere will mark the first of several theatrical releases slated to take place across the Caribbean.  Throughout May, June and July the film will travel across the region, opening at cinemas in Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua and St. Lucia.

The film’s cast features a number of accomplished Jamaican talents, headlined by Leonie Forbes and Peter Williams. Forbes portrays Miss G in the film - the beloved owner of Miss G’s restaurant - where much of the story’s action unfolds.

Written, directed and produced by Solomon, A Winter Tale tells the moving story of a Black men's support group that forms at a local Caribbean takeaway restaurant after a young boy is killed by a stray bullet. With a plot that revolves around the universal issues of gun violence and drug use, the film beautifully captures the day-to-day emotional struggles of this group of individuals.

Over the past year A Winter Tale has traveled the world, garnering rave reviews and international recognition through film festivals in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, New York, Trinidad and England.

It took home the Outstanding Canadian Feature Film Award at the prestigious ReelWorld Film Festival in April, during which Forbes was also honoured with an Award of Excellence. A Winter Tale also won the People’s Choice Award for Best Caribbean Feature at the 2007 Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival in September.

In November, the film was selected to open the 15th annual African Diaspora Film Festival in Manhattan. While in New York, Forbes’ illustrious career was honoured by the Jamaican Community. Forbes was presented with a Certificate of Merit from the Consulate General and a citation from United States Congressman Ed Towns (Brooklyn), in acknowledgment of her outstanding body of work.
